💰 TAXES

A new report from the Idaho Center for Fiscal Policy says recent state and federal tax cuts have mostly benefited higher-income households. The report found 73 percent of the tax savings went to Idaho families earning more than $143,000 a year, while the lowest-income households saw taxes increase by an average of 96 dollars annually.

🔥 WILDFIRES

The Cangrant Fire northwest of Mountain Home quickly grew to about 150 acres yesterday afternoon, prompting a large response from firefighters and aircraft. Crews report forward progress has been stopped. Full control of the fire is expected by this evening. No cause so far.

L and L Class Auto, a Highway 46 landmark north of Wendell for more than 50 years, was destroyed by the Median Fire Wednesday. Owner Larry Harms says the loss is devastating, but the family plans to rebuild.

📸 LICENSE PLATE CAMERAS

A Wilder man is challenging Idaho cities over their use of Flock Safety license plate cameras. Tyler Cain claims the agreements violate state law. Caldwell and Wilder are reviewing the issue, while Twin Falls says its camera system complies with Idaho law and is used only for law enforcement investigations.

🏫 SCHOOLS

The Jerome School District is moving its central offices to the JEEP Building at 830 10th Avenue East. The move supports expansion at Falls City Academy, adding new programs and more learning opportunities for students.

🚧 ROAD WORK

The City of Twin Falls will close portions of Washington Street June 22nd and 23rd to install new traffic delineators. The safety project is designed to reduce crashes caused by drivers crossing the double yellow center line.

Drivers should plan for delays on Kimberly Road beginning Monday. The Idaho Transportation Department is starting a major resurfacing project from Blue Lakes Boulevard to Eastland Drive. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with work expected to continue for about a year.

💧 TWIN FALLS UTILITIES

Twin Falls utility customers take note: late fees will return July 1st as the city ends temporary billing accommodations. Service shutoffs for delinquent accounts could resume August 1st. Customers with past-due balances are encouraged to contact Utility Services about payment arrangements.

🏍️ CRASH INVESTIGATION

Three Colorado men killed in a motorcycle crash near Kooskia have been identified as Larimer County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jeremy Coleman, Deputy Ethan Powers, and Coleman’s son-in-law, Nathan McCormick. Idaho State Police say their motorcycles were struck by a pickup that crossed the center line.

🌲 PUBLIC LANDS

The Idaho Department of Lands will host three public meetings next week to discuss a proposed land exchange near Payette Lake. The plan could swap up to 15,700 acres of state endowment land for federal forest land, with meetings scheduled in Cascade, McCall, and New Meadows.

🥎 HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

The Idaho all-state softball teams are out, and several Magic Valley standouts earned top honors. Twin Falls senior Braylin Iverson headlines the list as a 5A First Team selection after batting .551. Burley’s Ady Olmos earned First Team honors for the second straight year. Kimberly landed two players on the 4A First Team, while Wendell’s Breanna Comstock picked up her third all-state nod. In 2A, Glenns Ferry freshman Charlee Stewart was named Player of the Year, and coach Cody Fisher earned Coach of the Year honors after leading the Pilots to a state championship.

Glenns Ferry’s state championship softball season keeps adding hardware. Freshman pitcher Charlee Stewart has been named Idaho 2A Player of the Year after posting a 2.22 ERA, 193 strikeouts, and 16 wins. Stewart dominated throughout the postseason, striking out 62 batters in five district and state tournament games as the Pilots captured the 2A state title. Her standout season included three no-hitters and ten games with double-digit strikeouts, cementing her as one of Idaho’s top young softball stars.

🐴 BOISE STATE ATHLETICS

Boise State Athletics has received another major boost. The Nicolaysen family and ES-O-EN Management have donated $1 million to support Bronco Athletics. The gift will help fund basketball scholarships, facility improvements, and the North End Zone Project, matching a previous $1 million contribution made in 2022.

Boise State’s EmpowHER Play initiative scored big in its first year, raising more than $30,000 for female student-athletes during the 2025-26 school year. Backed by locally owned Maddyn Homes, every donation was matched, helping expand support for women’s athletics. Bronco Nation also stepped up, boosting attendance at women’s sporting events by 16 percent over the previous year.

🚴 BOISE TRAILS CHALLENGE

If you’ve been looking for a reason to get outside this summer, the Boise Trails Challenge runs through July 18. Participants can hike, run, or bike more than 100 trails across the Ridge to Rivers system, covering up to 155 miles and 36,000 feet of elevation. Finishers earn prizes and swag, while proceeds help support local trail maintenance and stewardship efforts throughout the Boise Foothills.
