🚔 FATAL CRASH INVESTIGATION

Twin Falls Police say the 4-year-old boy struck by a vehicle while crossing Pole Line Road near Costco Monday night died yesterday from his injuries. The investigation into the crash continues.

💼 IDAHO JOBS & ECONOMY

Idaho’s unemployment rate ticked up slightly in May, rising from 3.6 to 3.7 percent. The Idaho Department of Labor says the state’s labor force and employment both dipped, but Twin Falls led Idaho’s metro areas in job growth during the month.

Idaho continues to rank among the nation’s best at administering SNAP benefits, posting the second-lowest payment error rate in the country. The ranking could help the state avoid higher federal program costs in the future.

Burley could receive federal funding to begin replacing its aging industrial wastewater treatment plant. The first phase of the long-awaited project could begin as early as next year.

🏛️ HISTORY & PUBLIC PROJECTS

An $8.1 million restoration project is underway at Minidoka National Historic Site near Jerome. The work will preserve World War II-era buildings and improve public access over the next two years.

Idaho’s newest state park officially opens tomorrow near Salmon. Twin Peaks Ranch State Park features camping, trails and access to the Salmon River, with a grand opening celebration planned from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

⚖️ COURTS & CLAIMS

Federal, state and local agencies are asking a judge to dismiss a lawsuit over last year’s immigration raid at La Catedral Arena in Wilder. The ACLU claims constitutional rights were violated, while the agencies argue officers acted lawfully under a federal search warrant.

The Ratto family has filed a $10 million tort claim against the City of Boise, alleging shattered glass from the New Year’s Eve Idaho Potato Drop seriously injured their daughter, Isabella Ratto.

Olympic gold medalist Bode Miller is expected to have misdemeanor drug charges filed in Idaho dismissed. Miller’s attorney says prosecutors agreed to drop the case, which stemmed from a June traffic stop involving cannabis allegedly belonging to a friend.

🌲 FORESTS & PUBLIC LANDS

The U.S. Forest Service is proposing an emergency plan to remove wind-damaged trees across parts of Idaho and Montana. Environmental groups are criticizing the plan, saying the one-week public comment period is too short.

🍎 EDUCATION

Twin Falls educator Peggy Hoy has been elected the next president of the Idaho Education Association. Hoy, a 30-year Twin Falls School District educator, begins her three-year term in August.

🚤 IDAHO REGATTA

The roar of the engines returns to Burley this weekend as the 51st Annual Idaho Regatta hits the Snake River. High-speed sprint boats from across the West will race a 1.25-mile course around Crow Island, reaching speeds of more than 60 miles an hour. Racing runs today through Sunday at Rivers Edge Marina, with testing, qualifying and championship heats. Daily admission is $20 for adults, with discounts for seniors, veterans and first responders, and kids 10 and under get in free.

🐎 RODEO

The 21st annual Daniel Dopps Memorial Rodeo kicks off today in Mountain Home. A dollar from every Friday ticket will benefit the Memorial Burnout Fund, helping families and officers impacted by last month’s wildfire.

Harold Simmons is the new head coach of Idaho State Bengals softball. Simmons comes from the University of Northern Colorado, where he helped lead the Bears to multiple Big Sky championships and NCAA Regional appearances.
