Train Derailment β Minidoka County
Emergency crews rescued a man pinned beneath a derailed train car Friday night. Firefighters used airbags and heavy equipment to lift the car before the victim was flown by Life Flight to a trauma center. The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
First West Nile Death
Idaho has reported its first West Nile death of the year. A senior Twin Falls resident died after being infected by a mosquito bite. West Nile activity has been detected in several southern Idaho counties.
Fatal Crash β Boise County
Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal crash on Highway 21 Friday night. A Saturn crossed the center line and collided with a pickup. A 22-year-old Marsing woman died at the scene.
Magic Valley Airshow
The Airshow closed yesterday with sold-out crowds at the Twin Falls airport. Fans watched the roar of an F-35 and the U.S. Navy Blue Angels in action, along with other thrilling performances. Organizers hope to bring the show back in the next few years.
Priest Lake Land Auction
The Idaho Department of Lands will auction eight state endowment lots at Priest Lake on Saturday. The properties, appraised at about $10.4 million, include six leased lots with cabins and two unleased parcels. Proceeds benefit Idahoβs Public-School Endowment.
Public Lands Amendment
Sen. Ben Adams is proposing a constitutional amendment to block the sale of future public lands the state acquires from the federal government. If approved, voters will decide in 2026.
Budget Cuts Ordered
Governor Brad Little has ordered 3% midyear budget cuts for state agencies, excluding K-12 schools. Colleges and universities will lose over $13 million. Little says the move creates efficiencies and paves the way for President Donald Trumpβs tax cuts. Democrats blame GOP tax breaks for the shortfall.
Senate Race β 2026
Independent candidate Todd Achilles, an Army veteran, is campaigning for Idahoβs U.S. Senate seat against Republican Senator Jim Risch. A July poll shows Risch leading with 41 percent.
Back-to-School β Jerome
The Jerome School District is preparing as students return this week. Superintendent Brent Johnson says they have a strong teacher pool and are improving substitute support with better software, training, and scheduling.

Rodeo β Stetson Wright
Stetson Wright tied an arena record in Gooding with his dad, PRORODEO Hall of Famer Cody Wright. Both hit 90 points, 12 years apart. Stetson earned nearly $7,000 and now sits 12th in the world standings.
Twin Falls Bruins
The Bruins are looking for a deeper playoff run with a new offensive coordinator. Senior quarterback Ty Hess says the team is ready to prove itself. They open at home vs. Sandpoint on Friday, August 22.
