🏈 Sports

🐯 Idaho State Bengals Football

Idaho State kicks off the season August 23rd at UNLV. Head Coach Cody Hawkins says his Bengals are ready:

“It feels like we’ve been in camp since February, but our guys are excited to finally hit somebody else.”

Hawkins says with a new staff, fresh faces, and no tape to study, there are plenty of unknowns—but also excitement. Quarterback Jordan Cook has matured on and off the field, and Hawkins believes he has “the potential to be conference player of the year.”

Defensively, Coach Grant Duff’s new one-gap system is bringing energy, with playmakers like Cam Willis and Tuco leading the charge.

🏈 Wendell Trojans

The Wendell Trojans take the football field this fall with new leadership under first-year head coach Josh Yon. After just one win last season, Wendell returns only four seniors, making this a young squad eager to prove themselves.

Coach Yon says the focus is on showing up, working hard, and fighting for spots. Junior RB/Safety Santos Suarez says players are battling to be leaders on the team. The Trojans debut Friday night on the road against the Filer Wildcats.

⚽ Idaho Vandal Soccer

Idaho Vandal soccer heads east this week for a two-game swing in Massachusetts, opening Thursday at 4:15 PM Pacific against UMass Lowell.

It’s the first-ever meeting between the programs, both entering at 1–1. The Vandals look to rebound after a loss to Washington, following a season-opening shutout of UC Riverside behind goals from Annika Farley and Georgia Whitehead.

Four starters return, including top scorer Farley, veteran keeper Paula Flores, and Karli Yoshida-Williams. Idaho has posted double-digit wins in four straight seasons, with three consecutive Big Sky title match appearances and an NCAA berth in 2023.

🏈 Glenns Ferry Pilots

The Glenns Ferry Pilots are looking to build on their best season since 2016. Last fall, they finished 6-4 and reached the playoffs for the first time in eight years before falling to Kamiah.

Head Coach Eric Stewart says this year’s nine seniors are hungry to prove themselves, stepping into bigger roles after limited time last season. Senior RB/LB Brodie Merrell says the Pilots are ready to show what Glenns Ferry football is all about. They open next Friday night on the road at Shoshone.
