🗳️ Abortion Measure Headed to November Ballot
Idaho voters will decide the future of abortion access this November. State officials have certified the Reproductive Freedom and Privacy Act after organizers submitted more than 110,000 signatures. If approved by a simple majority, the measure would legalize abortion until fetal viability and protect access to contraception and IVF.
🌊 Snake River Health Improving… But Challenges Remain
A new report from the Idaho Conservation League says the Snake River is in better shape than it was 30 years ago. However, pollution, toxic algae, and invasive quagga mussels continue to threaten Idaho’s largest river. Conservation groups are calling for additional restoration efforts.
🚻 Transgender Bathroom Law Raises Enforcement Questions
Idaho law enforcement officials say the state’s new transgender bathroom law may be difficult to enforce. Officers say determining a person’s biological sex could require invasive procedures or warrants in some situations, while legal challenges continue.
🚧 Jerome Traffic Alert
Driving through Jerome tomorrow afternoon? Expect delays near South Lincoln Avenue and Yakima Avenue.
🪨 A controlled rock blast is scheduled between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
⏱️ Traffic could be stopped for about 20 minutes.
🚨 Watch for warning sirens, flaggers, and detours.
🚔 Operation Safe Driver Week
Idaho State Police is increasing patrols this week as part of Operation Safe Driver Week.
Troopers will be watching for:

- 📱 Distracted driving
- 😡 Aggressive driving
- ⚠️ Other dangerous driving behaviors

📸 License Plate Cameras Spark Debate
Twin Falls Police say their 40 license plate reader cameras have helped recover stolen vehicles, locate missing children, and arrest wanted suspects.
Meanwhile, the group Deflock Idaho is calling for the cameras to be removed over privacy concerns. The issue is expected to be discussed at an upcoming Twin Falls City Council meeting.
🔥 Cabin Creek Fire Update
The Cabin Creek Fire near Stanley has grown to 7 acres and is now 50% contained.
✅ Firefighters are making good progress.
🚫 Cabin Creek Road remains closed.
⚠️ Nearby evacuation status remains at SET.
🚛 I-15 Crash Near Inkom
A semi-truck crash caused major delays on Interstate 15 near Inkom yesterday.
The truck struck a guardrail, blocking southbound lanes for about 2½ hours. The driver, a 55-year-old man from Alberta, was not injured.
🚨 Fatal Crash Near Mackay
Two people were killed in a crash near Mackay yesterday morning.
Idaho State Police say a 61-year-old Challis man failed to yield while entering Highway 93, colliding with a motorhome. His 58-year-old passenger from Arco also died. The motorhome driver was not injured.
🛣️ Transportation Planning Input Needed
The Magic Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization wants your input on how to spend approximately $260,000 in transportation planning funds next year.
🗓️ Public comments are being accepted through August 10.
⚖️ Boise Camping Ban Debate Continues
Two Idaho lawmakers say last week’s deadly stabbing on the Boise Greenbelt may have been prevented if Boise had enforced the state’s public camping ban.
House Speaker Mike Moyle and Representative Bruce Skaug are asking the Attorney General to review possible legal action involving the City of Boise.
👨⚖️ Payette County Murder Cases Return to Court
Two high-profile Payette County murder cases are back in court today.
- Stacey Wondra will ask a judge to dismiss charges in the disappearance and presumed murder of 5-year-old Michael Vaughan.
- Andrea Shaw is expected to be arraigned on charges involving the deaths of her toddler twins.
🚓 Police Drone Leads to Arrest
A Meridian Police drone helped officers quickly locate and arrest 35-year-old Ryan Cox, who is accused of aggravated battery.
Police say Cox fled the scene and attempted to hide before officers, assisted by a K-9 unit and drone, took him into custody. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
🏆 Sports
⚾ Burley Green Sox completed an incredible turnaround, winning the Legion B District Championship after finishing the regular season just 5-21. Despite qualifying for state, the team will not attend due to budget limitations and coaching schedule conflicts.
⚾ Minico Storm is headed back to the Legion B State Tournament looking for an incredible fourth consecutive state championship. Tournament play begins Wednesday in Kuna.
🏈 Idaho State Football earned national recognition with three preseason STATS Perform All-Americans:

- ⭐ Dason Brooks (Third Team)
- ⭐ Chedon James (Third Team)
🏌️ Boise State Women’s Golf celebrated six WGCA All-American Scholars, recognizing excellence both in the classroom and on the course.
